What the usual page leaves out
Type this date into a search box and the answers line up: the sign, the element, the ruling planet, then a short list of adjectives about optimism and travel. None of it is false. None of it separates a birth on this date from a birth three weeks later, either.
The reason is structural. Most of those pages work from a printed date span and nothing else, and a span can tell you the sign and then it has run out of things to say. Everything after that has to be filled with the generic sign description, which is why they read alike.
More is on the record. The Sun has a measurable longitude at every instant, and at noon on 26 November it has sat between about three and a third and four and two thirds degrees of Sagittarius in every year from 1930 to 2035. That band is narrow, it is checkable, and it is almost never published.
Why the position hardly moves
It is reasonable to ask why a calendar date should track a position in the sky when the two are not the same length. A tropical year runs roughly a quarter of a day longer than a common calendar year, so the Sun reaches any given longitude about six hours later each year. Then a leap day arrives and pulls the whole thing back by nearly a full day.
That sawtooth is the entire mechanism. Drift and correction cancel across the four year cycle, which holds a fixed calendar date on very nearly the same solar longitude for a very long time. The small leftover, the reason the Gregorian rule skips some century leap years, shifts things by about a day per century.
So the band quoted above is not an average and not a rounding. It is the actual spread of noon positions across the years examined.
Four degrees in, and what sits there
Three to five degrees of Sagittarius places the Sun early in the sign but well clear of the ingress from Scorpio. In every year of that record the boundary was crossed days beforehand, so unlike the birthdays around the twenty first and twenty second of November, this one is not open to argument.
The position falls in the first decan, the opening ten degrees of the sign. The Chaldean order hands that face to Mercury; the triplicity scheme leaves it with Sagittarius and therefore with Jupiter. Tradition reads the first as conviction obliged to produce its evidence, and the second as the sign arriving undiluted, with its taste for the general case and for arguments about meaning.
Both of those are interpretation, and they are marked as such. The degree is not, and the decan follows from the degree by arithmetic.
What the date cannot tell you
The Sun is one body among many. On this date the Moon may be in either of two signs, or occasionally a third, depending on the hour of birth, since it covers roughly thirteen degrees a day and changes sign every couple of days. The calendar date narrows none of that.
The rising sign is looser again. The whole zodiac turns past the horizon in a day, so two people born on this date four hours apart in the same hospital have different Ascendants and a different house layout for every planet in the chart. That is the placement most astrologers reach for first, and a birthday alone cannot supply it.
Put plainly, the sun sign is the least personal item in a chart, because everyone born within about a month of you shares it. The widget above computes your exact degree from your own year and birthplace and reports how far you were born from the nearest sign boundary, which is as far as a date and a place can carry you without a time.
Questions people ask about this
What sign is 26 November?
Sagittarius, in every year on record and with no ambiguity attached. The Sun crossed out of Scorpio several days earlier, so this date is not one of the ones where a table and a calculation can disagree.
What degree is the Sun on 26 November?
At noon it has fallen between roughly three and a third and four and two thirds degrees of Sagittarius across the years checked. Your own figure depends on your year, hour and birthplace, and the widget above works it out.
Which decan is a 26 November birthday?
The first decan of Sagittarius, the opening ten degrees. The Chaldean order gives that face to Mercury while the triplicity scheme gives it to Jupiter, so a description quoted elsewhere may name either.
Does the exact degree change anything?
It changes which aspects the Sun makes to other planets and which house it occupies, both of which are degree based. It does not change the sign, which is settled well before this date.
Can a 26 November birth be Scorpio?
Not at any hour. The Sun would have to be more than three degrees behind its recorded position, which is far outside the drift the calendar allows.
Do I still need my birth time?
For the sun sign, no. For the Moon and especially the rising sign, yes, because both move fast enough that a few hours changes the answer.
